Description
Bobby J. Ward is co-editor of A Garden of One’s Own, a collection of the garden writings of North Carolina writer Elizabeth Lawrence. Bobby is the author of A Contemplation Upon Flowers: Garden Plants in Myth and Literature, The Plant Hunter’s Garden: the New Explorers and Their Discoveries, and Chlorophyll in His Veins: J. C. Raulston, Horticultural Ambassador.
He is a past president of the North American Rock Garden Society and is currently its executive secretary. He is a contributing editor for Horticulture magazine, and writes for Carolina Gardener, The Rock Garden (Scotland), Rock Garden Quarterly, and the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer. His writing earned the Quill & Trowel Award from the Garden Writers Association in 2000. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for the JC Raulston Arboretum.
Bobby is an environmental scientist who lives in Raleigh, N.C. . He is a native North Carolinian and received an undergraduate degree in biology from East Carolina University and masters and doctoral degrees in botany and plant physiology from North Carolina State University. He worked for 25 years as an environmental scientist with Carolina Power & Light Company (now Progress Energy) and is now retired.
He has lectured to over 200 garden clubs, arboreta, botanical gardens, bookstores, and libraries around the U.S., also in Canada, the Czech Republic, and speaker’s tours in both Scotland and England.
