Description
Award-winning garden photojournalist Debra Lee Baldwin authored Designing with Succulents and Succulent Container Gardens, both bestsellers. Her mission is to share the beauty and practicality of these remarkable plants with gardening enthusiasts worldwide, regardless of their climate or space constraints.
Debra has given presentations at the Huntington Botanical Gardens, the Denver Botanic Garden, and the Philadelphia International Flower Show---to name a few of many prestigious venues. Her own garden near San Diego has been featured in Sunset, Better Homes & Gardens, the San Diego Union-Tribune and other publications.
One of the horticultural community's most engaging speakers, Debra has the ability to entertain and enlighten in equal measure. She looks forward to showing your group how to add beauty, sophistication and whimsy to their gardens and outdoor living spaces.
Debra will explain how top designers use geometric, architectural succulents with spectacular blooms and foliage of every color—including cherry red, sky blue and magenta-black. She will introduce various types of succulents, discuss their care, describe what makes each interesting and unique, and explain how to create lovely, low-water vignettes and potted arrangements.
Debra customizes her presentations to best meet the needs and interests of specific groups and regions. For example, cold-climate and/or space-constrained gardeners tend to be best served by her container gardening presentation, which shows how anyone, anywhere can successfully grow and enjoy a wide variety of lovely, waterwise, low-maintenance succulents and their companion plants.
With Debra's expert guidance, your attendees will better understand basic design principles and how to use sculptural aloes, agaves, echeverias and more to beautifully express their individual styles.

Audience Reviews

A Generous, Encouraging Speaker
Judy Maier from San Jose, CA - 03/26/2012 04:01:03
I've had the opportunity to hear several of Debra's presentations on succulents in the last few years, most recently this last week at the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show. As a landscape designer, garden writer and photographer, I can say that her eye for design is wonderful and her photographs to illustrate, beautiful. She will often engage with the audience after an explanation of how to do something, bringing the point back to reality by encouraging them to try it in their own gardens. Her practical demonstrations are given in the same tone. She is light, friendly, approachable, entertaining and very informative on the art and science of succulents.

I heard Debra speak at Dig Gardens in Santa Cruz on container gardening with succulents. She was knowledgeable and entertaining, potting plants, fielding questions, and giving people useful tips. Her books and CDs are beautifully photographed. She is a wonderful artist, photographer and teacher. Thank you Debra!
